Bay Day

Bay Day is back! The Macandrew Bay community will be pulling out all stops to populate Ralph Ham Memorial Park (the Muddy) with families, friends and anyone who wants to enjoy the Bay. In 1979, when completion of the Beach Project transformed the Bay, the first Bay Day was held with a boating regatta - once common in the 1920’s when ‘Weekenders’ would arrive by ferry in their hundreds to join residents in a fun day out at the Bay.
Bay Day 2011 will involve lots of fun activities around the Bay. The day will begin with a Church Service and end with a Barn Dance. Families are encouraged to come dressed in costume- as diggers, bathers, and other Victorian characters. There will be a Variety Concert for children and honky tonk music. Damper will be cooking along with good old fashioned stew and pikelets. There will be lots of competitions and fun activities.
Bellamys Gallery is hosting an art exhibition themed on goldminer’s lives and their passage to Otago. At Glenfalloch there will be the ‘Golden Mile’ race, the popular Gnome Hunt and other activities for children and a Devonshire Tea will be available.
There are three key locations for the festival and below is a programme of events at each location.
